Home & Garden – Fall’s To-Do List

Fall is in full swing, here is a quick list of items to remember to keep your home and garden beautiful.

Fall Preparation: Garden List

Collect Seeds

Collect seeds in paper envelopes, remember to label them because it’s very difficult to remember them all.

Cut the Lawn

Keep mowing the lawn, bag attached, to create compost and mulch.

Relocate your Herbs to Indoors

Transplant your herbs indoors until the cold weather comes.

Keep Watering

Remember to keep watering the plants even as the weather changes.

Dividing Plants

This is a good time to divide plants, and transplant to new areas.

Cut Perennials

Trim perennials that can multiply by setting seed.

It’s time to move houseplants and tropical plants to inside the home for winter.

Cut and Clean Plants

Trim perennials and rake up foliage.

Fall Garden

Plan out, and plant a Fall garden of cool-season vegetables, annuals and spring-blooming bulbs.

Take Pictures

Enjoy your work! Take pictures to remember how amazing the Fall garden looks.

Fall Preparation: Home Maintenance List

Reduce Drafts and Strengthen Insulation

Consider storm windows if you don’t have them, or if you have storm windows then take this time to clean and close them.

Replace Your HVAC Air Filter

It’s recommended to change your filter every 1-3 months to keep the air in your home clean and flowing freely.

Check Toilets for Leaks

Regularly check your toilets to confirm they are not constantly running, which can waste thousands of gallons of water and drive up your utility costs.

Check Weather Stripping

Check your weather stripping around doors and at the bottom, as these can wear out and get damaged over time.

Clean the Gutters

Clogged gutters with heavy leaves can become a larger problem over time, get them cleaned out and use a hose to check to confirm the draining is working correctly.  While you’re cleaning the gutters out, check if there are areas that the gutter is sagging or lower than other spots.  You may need to reinstall some screws to keep the gutter level throughout.
